NOUN Accredited Programs
The history of the National Open University of Nigeria began with a suggestive memo from Prof. Jubril Aminu to the existing Federal Military Government in 1976.
Leading the National Universities Commission (NUC) at the time, Prof. Aminu wrote about the inclusion of an autonomous university in the Fourth National Development Plan.
This was included in the 1977 National Policy of Education as the government sprang into action.
The civilian government of President Shehu Shagari, which later came into power in October 1979, also accepted the idea.
The government created a Presidential Planning Committee in April 1980, and by October, the committee had produced a report and draft Bill. This was scrutinized, ratified, and finally passed into law in July 1983.
Unfortunately, the National Open University activities were put on hold in April 1984 by an incumbent Federal Military Government.
Breakthrough, however, came with the 1999 civilian government of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, which reapproved the running of the university.

Being one of the most outstanding ODL institutions on the continent, NOUN offers flexibility, affordability, and ease of learning. This is reflected in its online and offline study options for all of its accredited courses.
Students of the university can learn anywhere and at any time by exploring either method. They can also switch to a different approach when it becomes inconvenient to use the other.
